Instagram Comment Responses
1. Introduction
Definition
«Instagram Comment Responses» is a Leeloo.AI feature within AI Support that automatically sends a message to a user's Instagram Direct when they comment on a post on your public Instagram page. It runs at the Attract and Engage lifecycle stages — capturing leads from Instagram reach and turning a public comment into a private one-on-one conversation in Direct.
The module reads from connected Communication Channels (the Instagram page added to the platform) and is bound to a «Smart Response» LGT. Unlike the Facebook counterpart, Instagram responses additionally support buttons inside the Direct message of two types — «Subscribe» (subscribes to LGT) and «Template» (sends a template), which lets you segment commenters at the very first touchpoint.
B2B operator (marketer, SMM specialist or content manager) configures trigger posts, response groups with keywords, Direct message texts and public comment replies, adds up to three buttons for interactive scenarios, and links an LGT for funnel subscription.
B2C client (the commenter) leaves a comment under the post → automatically receives a message in Instagram Direct → can click a button (subscribe to LGT or get a template) → enters the sales funnel and continues the conversation with the brand in a private chat.
The Client's Card records: communication channel (Instagram Direct), subscription source (the LGT of this post), the trigger comment text, time of first contact, and button-click history.
After reading this guide you will understand:
what «Instagram Comment Responses» is and what role it plays at the Attract and Engage stages;
how to connect an Instagram page and add a trigger post for automatic responses;
how to configure Direct message texts, public reply comments and buttons for interactive scenarios;
how to split responses by keywords using response groups and LGTs;
how to manage created groups and remove posts, and how Instagram Comment Responses differ from the Facebook counterpart.
Purpose
«Instagram Comment Responses» is the main cold lead capture engine for Instagram publications with the option to add interactive Direct buttons. One configured post runs 24/7: every new commenter automatically becomes a Direct subscriber without any SMM manager involvement.
Attract — converts public commenters of posts and Reels into Direct subscribers. JTBD — capture leads from organic Instagram reach with zero manual effort and move the conversation from a public space into a private channel.
Engage — different keyword-based responses and interactive Direct buttons segment commenters at the very first contact. JTBD — segment the new audience by interest and route each commenter into the relevant funnel via an LGT or a template.
2. Setup overview
Configuration is split into three stages: connecting the Instagram page through AI Support, adding a trigger post, and configuring response groups with keywords, buttons, and the AI assistant.
2.1. Preparation — connecting an Instagram page
Before configuring automatic responses, connect your Instagram business page to the platform. Open Settings → Integrations → Messengers and add the Instagram page.
A detailed description of how to connect communication channels is provided in the «AI Support» guide (see «Related guides»).
2.2. Opening the «Instagram Comment Responses» section
In the «AI Support» section hover over «Reply Automation» and select «Instagram Comment Replies».
2.3. Adding an Instagram post
Click the «Add Instagram Post» button.
Select the Instagram page from the list of pages connected to the platform.
2.4. Choosing a publication
A list of posts from the selected page will appear with their creation dates. Choose the post for which automatic responses will be sent when commented on, and click the «Select» button.
2.5. Post title and response texts
Enter the post title (1). By default it matches the post text — shorten it for easier identification.
Enter the chat message (2) — the text sent to the user in Instagram Direct.
Enter the comment reply (3) — the public reply comment under the post.
Click «Send».
2.6. Adding buttons (optional)
You can add up to three buttons for reply options inside the Direct message. This is the key difference between Instagram responses and the Facebook counterpart:
Click «+» — to add a reply button.
Click the delete icon — to remove a button.
The «Button Name» field — enter the button title.
Button type — two types are available:
«Subscribe» — subscribes the user to the chosen LGT and triggers the corresponding sales funnel.
«Template» — sends a pre-prepared message template to the Direct chat.
A field to select an LGT or template — a dropdown with available options.
Click «Save» to save the button settings.
Important: the template content must comply with the messenger's message format and content requirements.
2.7. AI assistant (optional)
Activate the toggle to enable the AI assistant for automatic replies under subscriber comments. The AI assistant will generate a unique reply for each comment instead of sending the standard message.
3. Different responses depending on the comment text
You can add several messages that will be sent in response to a comment on a post depending on keywords in the comment text. To do this, create a new group by clicking the «Create Group» button.
Below the default response group (Default response group) a new empty response group will appear. Fill in its fields:
Group name (1) — enter a name for easy identification.
Keywords (2) — enter a list of keywords; when detected in a comment, the message from field (3) will be sent. Press Enter after each word.
Direct reply message (3) — enter the text message that will be sent to the commenter in Direct.
Comment reply message (4) — enter the public reply comment.
LGT (5) — select the Lead Generation Tool through which the subscription to the funnel occurs.
Example: if one of the specified keywords is found in the comment on the post, the message from field (3) is sent to the commenter in Direct. If the commenter replies to this message, they are subscribed to the funnel linked to the LGT from field (5). If no LGT is selected, the commenter is subscribed to the default funnel (the one set in the platform settings). If a keyword from a created group is found in the comment, the message from the «Default messages» group is no longer sent.
3.1. Managing response groups
Deactivate the default reply — the default reply (Default response group) can be deactivated by toggling the switch (1). Then messages will only be sent from created groups when a keyword is found in the comment.
Delete a group — a created group can be deleted by clicking the icon (2).
Delete the post — to completely remove all comment replies for a specific post, click the «Remove Instagram post» button (3).
Adding a reply message for another Instagram post is done the same way — go back to step 2.3 and follow the instructions.
