Remove tag
1. Introduction
Definition
"Remove tag" is a mass action in the Audience section that simultaneously strips a chosen tag from a group of clients. It is the reverse of "Add a tag" and a tool of the Manage stage of the customer lifecycle: used to clean segments, rebuild selections, and prune outdated labels.
The action reads the client list from the Audience section (respecting the active Filter Panel) and removes the specified tag from the tags attribute of each Client's Card. After execution clients automatically drop out of every segment relying on that tag: Audience filters, CRM selections, Smart Sender audiences, Filter blocks in tunnels.
The B2B operator (manager, marketer, administrator) launches the action the same way as "Add a tag": picks a group of clients, specifies the tag to remove and the execution time, confirms the launch.
The B2C client receives no notification about the tag being removed. The change affects them indirectly: after the tag is stripped, they stop matching the conditions that the tag enabled — no longer receive related Smart Sender broadcasts, no longer appear in tunnel filters tied to it.
The Client's Card records the updated tag list with a timestamp and the operator who initiated the removal. The tag dictionary in CRM settings is unaffected — only the binding to clients is dropped.
After reading you will understand:
how to remove a tag from a group of clients simultaneously in the Audience section;
how mass tag removal differs from deleting the tag itself from the CRM dictionary;
how to narrow the client selection through the Filter Panel before launching;
how to schedule execution and what the "Recommended" checkbox does;
which modules stop "seeing" the clients after the tag is removed.
Purpose
"Remove tag" is the hygiene tool of the subscriber base: one execution clears obsolete or erroneous labels from large groups of clients without manually editing each Client's Card.
At the Manage stage, mass tag removal covers segment-reshaping tasks: strip the "hot lead" tag from those who didn't buy after a promo, clean up service labels after a migration, re-tag the base when the strategy changes. The job — keep client attributes truthful so that filters and broadcasts run against current segments.
2. How to perform the "Remove tag" mass action
2.1. Open the "Audience" section
Go to the Audience section and, if needed, configure the Filter Panel in advance to narrow the selection to the clients from whom the tag should be removed.
2.2. Open the "Mass Actions" menu
Click "Mass Actions" on the right side of the Audience table — a list of group operations opens.
2.3. Select the "Remove Tag" action
From the list of mass actions choose "Remove Tag". The configuration form opens.
2.4. Select clients
Tick the clients from whom the tag should be removed. Checkboxes work within one page (up to 30 subscribers); "Select All" covers the entire current Audience selection respecting the filter.
2.5. Specify the tag and confirm
Pick the tag from the dropdown — it must be an existing tag previously assigned to the selected clients.
Set the date and time of execution for the mass action.
The "Recommended" checkbox automatically schedules the mass action for 02:00 AM server time.
Click "Remove Tag" to confirm. After execution the tag disappears from the Client's Card of every selected subscriber.
